Greyhound racing first took place in the County Durham city of Durham in 1937. The track was built on Frankland Lane at Durham City FC who at one time were in the Football League but lost their league status in 1928. By 1932 the ground was extended and it was some 5 years later that a greyhound track was built around the perimeter of the football ground. The Holiday Park track was situated at 1° 34' W 54° 46' N. The racing was run independently and the inaugural meeting at the new track was on 23rd October 1937. Although greyhound racing was popular, it could never fill the stadium which had a capacity of 2000. |

Racing continued at this venue until 1951 and the land is now used by the local Electric company. |
