DURHAM GREYHOUND STADIUM

This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for helping to construct this page.

Greyhound racing first took place in the County Durham city of Durham in 1937. The track was built on Frankland Lane at Durham City FC who at one time were in the Football League but lost their league status in 1928. By 1932 the ground was extended and it was some 5 years later that a greyhound track was built around the perimeter of the football ground. The Holiday Park track was situated at 1° 34' W 54° 46' N. The racing was run independently and the inaugural meeting at the new track was on 23rd October 1937. Although greyhound racing was popular, it could never fill the stadium which had a capacity of 2000.

Racing continued at this venue until 1951 and the land is now used by the local Electric company.

This section gives a comprehensive picture of the badges produced by the track throughout the ages, but only provides the briefest of glimpses of its history. For those wishing to undertake further research we can recommend a visit to
